Report on the 2000 International Manufacturing Technology Show

By Ilian Bonev

The 2000 International Manufacturing Technology Show was held in Chicago, Illinois on September 6-13. Unfortunately, a very few PKM's were on display. The Tricept by Neos Robotics was present only virtually on a videotape in the booth of their US distributer JMC Technology Group. Index Corporation had a new 3-axis PKM lathe, while ABB Automation had their small Delta robot, the FlexPicker, whizzing around. An interesting application was demonstrated by Cincinnati Machine as their Z3 Head, originally developped by DS Technologies. The spindle head is a 3-PRS parallel mechanism providing a pure translation and two rotations. Finally, Hexel made their unexpected appearance with their Hexabot in collaboration with South Bend Lathe, using the hexapod as a working table but misteriously covering its insides with bellows.

Thanks to Paul Sheldon for providing us with the above factual data.
